Counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies and both terms are often used interchangeably. Although they are very similar, some experts claim they overlap in some ways. The therapeutic relationship serves to address conscious and unconscious needs and to produce change in emotional and cognitive processes and behaviour.
The therapy process is an opportunity for the client to explore their own values and beliefs, and to understand how to challenge themselves to make positive changes in their lives. The objective of therapy is to help the client to explore the history and the possible roots of their problems as well as to facilitate and work on possible solutions.
